the band needs to move on

even though Intempo2006 wasnt brilliant, it didnt warrant such negative comments from the concert-goers (actually i've had people telling me its entertaining and good, but that's another story). sure sure we're not perfect yada-yada, but theres no reason for it to be put in such nasty ways.
anyway, the important thing is for the band to not be disheartened and to keep plugging away towards achieving a higher standard of music in performances.
here are some suggestions of mine to help improve the band standard:
1) more band practices before concert. 1 prac per week is NOT ENOUGH!!
2) invite guest players for sections which we are weak in or do not have enough players. they are also good ways to network and sell tics (think of Eugene!)
3) for sections which are overflowing with people, have auditions before we take in new members? i know i know we don't judge people by their playing standards and that everyone is important, etc. but we need some quality control damnit! =p

--> b4 increasing the number of band pracs, think of WHO'll actually turn up for the 2 pracs. if attendance is 50% for each prac, no pt. why not change style of prac so that more things can be done?

-->i dun think we should do this. the section MAY not be happy abt it. i rmb my tuba section being unhappy abt InTempo 05 cos somebody drag a guestplayer here cos "we got no sound". boo...

1) what type of style? seriously i think the prob with intempo06 was due to a lack of practices. the band as an ensemble wasn't well-prepared enough. some pieces we tot were ok we just breezed thru during pracs, and they gave problems during the actual performance.
2) of cos, the section has to agree and their opinions be consulted. no point having unhappy sections! =p

i tink we had enuf pracs, but not effectively made use of, and u know who i refering to. we shdn't leave details to the last min. 1 rehearsal b4 the concert we're still doing some running parts. i'd think that instead, perhaps, not enuf sectionals...
also, CM shd help more with the other pieces instead of doing only his song. help by looking thru the conductor scores, constantly keeping in touch with SLs to tell dem wat to do during sectionals. e.g chords thingy... we seriously need more chord work. we juz play and dun care whether we're supposed to play louder/softer than other notes. e.g. in some chords, the mediant (3rd note) is obviously so loud and nothing is done. shd have asked the root and 5th to play louder... and blah...

yeah, i feel that the CM role in NUSWS is severely restricted to warming up the band and doing his own pieces. we need a more proactive CM running around and barking at sections leaders to buck up on their section standards and pointing out problems in their playing. should advise SLs what to practise on during sectionals and be more critical.

Hahaa.. That time we had already slated that CM is in charge of this thing called a "Music Committee". It's made up of all the SLs. Just that... our CM not very free lah. You know what I mean.
haha.. think the President should be in charge of the Music Committee and keep track of the CM, who in turn keeps track of the SLs, who in turn keep track of their members..
LOL. Exactly what I had in mind, you know? Great minds think alike! I think shan shd also remember that this is what I proposed last year. Why didn't it work? Hmm.. We all know why...
haha.. lets hope it works this time. we need to be chasing each other to buck up, cannot be a top-down approach. if not liddat the prez sure pengz, haha

I asked to set up the music comm mah.. den say we nid to meet and tell them wad to do one, coz ppl all new to this concept.. somewhere along the way, it died-ed..
